Full Service PCBs

Full Service PCBs – For Specialized Requirements

One of the lesser known services offered by PCB manufacturers is full service PCBs. This entails providing every service connected to the PCB manufacturing process. This can include component and material sourcing, PCB fabrication, assembly, and testing.

When is a Full Service PCB offered?

Generally, the full service PCB option is offered by manufacturers when customers come to them with the following requirements.

  • 2-10 Layer PCBs
  • No minimum order quantity
  • High temperature FR4 designs
  • Different surface finish options:
    • HAL
    • Hard Gold
    • Bondable Gold
    • Immersion Silver
    • Immersion White Tin
  • Full specifications, small quantity circuit board orders

What are the Advantages of Choosing a Full Service PCB?

There are a number of advantages that come with choosing full service PCB option:

  • The PCB is manufactured within a quicker lead time and at competitive prices.
  • If a customer comes with an existing design, the manufacturer can verify that it meets Design for Manufacturability (DFM) requirements.
  • Once the PCB has been completed, the company can also send a report providing evidence of manufacturing quality. The report illustrates a cross section of the circuit board as evidence of the PCB’s quality and reliability.
  • A Design Rule Check (DRC) is performed to ensure that the Gerber files do not have any manufacturability issues.
  • The printed circuit boards are manufactured adhering to the IPC Class 2 specifications. This means that the PCB is a dedicated service electronic product. IPC Class 2 also means that the PCB can be used for applications such as office computers, and communication equipment. They can also be used for industrial instruments that require high performance and un-interrupted service.

Hence, if your requirements fit into the requirements of a full service PCB, it would be a good idea to request the same from your manufacturer.
